Dode Wagner was a member of the original Oens clan that migrated from Kentucky in the late 1850's through Elmo Mo. where their first child James E. Oens was born (her grandfather). The family migrated on horseback and covered wagon up through Canada and down the Columbia River, homesteading in the Daisy area. Dode recalled with pleasure how she used to watch the old timers get their heads shaved at the barber shops in Hunters back when it was a big town. Delores is the daughter of Harold Jones former First Class Petty Officer (WWII) and Marie (Oens) Gilmore, an upholsterer who met while both were working on the Grand Coulee Dam.
Dode met a tire man, Reginald J. Wagner (born in N. Dakota) on a double date stealing Reggie from the other girl! They lived in Spokane, Pend Orielle, and Stevens County most of their adult lives.
Dode bore 5 children between 1955 and 1963 as follows;
Robert Alan 24 Aug 1955 (Dec)
William Lee 24 Aug 1956 (Florida)
Russell John April 1959 (Ohio)
Jesse James Jan 1961 (Dec)
Katrina Kae Stephens Feb 1963. (Spokane)
Choosing marriage rather than a diploma, Delores went to night school for her GED in 1974 and then obtained a bookkeeping degree from Spokane Community College. Delores then began working with the developmentally disabled. She worked 20+ years at S. L. Start & Associates, ultimately retiring as Human Resources Director.
In retirement, Dode enjoyed reading, cooking, and creating greeting cards under the moniker MS Lazy.
Delores wanted cremation and made arrangements to have ashes placed privately after her death.
