July 11, 1967 - November 12, 2017

Cyndy Schur (Gaston) passed away at Deaconess Hospital on November 12, 2017 with family and friends by her side. Cyndy was 50 years old, a longtime resident of Spokane, originally born in Anchorage, Alaska on July 11, 1967. Her family moved to Seattle, the Maple Valley area and later lived with her sister Carol and brother-in-law Bill until she graduated from Bothell High School in 1985. In the summer of 1986 she met her future husband, Dane Schur, while attending W.S.U. in Pullman, WA. Married on March 5, 1988 Cyndy and Dane moved to Spokane with their first child, daughter Ashley. Cyndy had a natural talent with children which she showed throughout her life by taking in and caring for many in her personal and professional time. Cyndy and Dane were blessed with two additional children, daughter Julee , 1991, and son Jonathan (Johnny), 1999. They also were blessed with their only grandchild currently, Maggie, in June of 2014. Cyndy loved to take care of and help develop little Mags even during her health issues of late. Cyndy and Dane worked together most of their thirty years of marriage as apartment managers. Cyndy was an exceptional manager, activities director, and all round employee at multiple companies and facilities throughout Spokane. Fortunately, Cyndy and Dane were able to work and spend extensive time with family and each other. Danes parents, Joan and Greg Schur considered her their own daughter and often stated how lucky they were to have her as part of the family. She was also integral in taking care of her mother Charlotte until her passing. Holidays were always a busy time for Cyndy. At home she would consistently display her cooking and organization skills by hosting large celebrations where any and all were welcome. For many years she would also replicate these feats at her workplaces, often feeding forty or more tenants at a time. Cyndys personal life mostly revolved around her family and husband Dane. She loved camping with friends and family. Attending any of her childrens functions, school musicals, soccer games, Moms weekend as W.S.U. etc , sitting down and reading a book or having a glass of wine and watching a girly movie with her daughters or occasionally husband and son was one of her favorite joys. She excelled at playing board and card games as well. Cyndy also was an avid and accomplished dart thrower for many years. She won several championships and tournaments with Dane and others in Seattle, Portland, Reno, Boise, Coeur DAlene and Spokane. She has many friends in the dart community and they have been unbelievably supportive, with fundraisers, help and overall kindness during Cyndys battle with Cushings syndrome/Adrenal cancer. Diagnosed with Cushings in 2015 and later cancer in 2016, Cyndy spent the last two years battling her illness with such grace and strength. She lived as normal as possible in between several hospitalizations and bouts of extreme sickness. Her greatest concern was for others when she was gone. She wanted her friends and family to be strong, supportive to each other and live life to the fullest. Her presence and standing as a great wife, mother, and friend will be sorely missed. Cyndy is survived by her best friend-husband Dane, children Ashley (son-in-law Taylor), Julee (son-in-law Nathan), and Johnny, brothers and sisters; Roger, Ralph, Russ, Carol, Charlotte, Cathy, Cheryl, and Christine, grandchild; Maggie (Mags), and numerous nieces and nephews as well as their many children whom she loved dearly. A Graveside Service will be held for Cyndy on Saturday, December 2 at 1 PM at Spokane Memorial Gardens, 5909 Cheney Spokane Rd. Memorial to follow at 3:30 PM at Summit Church, 1801 E. 29th Avenue. All are welcome to attend either or both but memorial attendance is encouraged. Please come.
