August 31, 1936 - September 28, 2018
Having endured difficult tee shots, playing out of the rough, and navigating sand traps and water hazards during the last couple holes in the golf course of life, Claudia Mae Otis, on a beautiful September afternoon, got her “hole in one” on the 18th and headed to the clubhouse to be with her Lord and Savior. There she was welcomed into the foursome that included her son, Jim, her parents, Babe and Alden and her longtime golfing buddy, Mandy. Others in the clubhouse included her brother and sister in law, John and Janet, as well as many other relatives and friends. She leaves on the course to continue play, her sons Michael and Jerry (Debbi); her niece (the daughter she never had) Mary Beth; her granddaughters Kylie (Mason), Jordan (Garrett), Randi (Dan), and Jessica (Nick); and her grandson Jeff. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren; her sister Lillian; and special friends Joy, Gladys and Michelle. Numerous nieces, nephews and good, good friends round out this Scramble Tournament. Claudia attended Libby Junior High, Lewis and Clark High and Whitworth College in Spokane. Her marriage to Jerry Otis took her throughout Washington, Montana, Idaho and Oregon, where she worked primarily in the hospital and medical administration fields. This gave her the opportunity to play lots of golf courses around the Pacific Northwest, and when she retired, she played even more golf while she traveled, oftentime with Mandy Diedrich, to destinations far away as Australia. While golf was her passion, Claudia was an avid sports fan, and women’s softball and women’s basketball were favorites. She was a devoted Cougar, an Eagle, a Pirate, and especially a Bulldog. She was a longtime season ticketholder and enjoyed the Lady Zags’ home games at the Kennel. At Claudia’s request, there will be no memorial service. The family plans a Celebration of Life in the future, and will post information on Claudia’s Facebook page when plans are finalized. The family suggests memorials to Vorpahl Wing Charities (VWC), in Claudia’s name, to help our youth continue their endeavors in Sports, STEM, Band and Entrepreneurship Education. VWC’s address is 421 W. Riverside, Suite 1020, Spokane, WA 99201. Visit www.pnwcremation.com to leave a message for Claudia’s family and friends.
