POWELL, - Charles - Roderick - "Rod" - (Age 78) Rod passed away Thursday, November 24, 2016, at home in Spokane, WA following a long illness. Rod is survived by his wife of 55 years, Vera Powell; his sister, Jeanne Powell; his three children, Jeff Powell, Todd Powell, and Kristi Powell Bronson; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Born in 1938 in Seattle, WA, he was primarily raised in Kalispell, MT and later attended the University of Montana in Missoula, where he received a B.A. in Business Administration. He went on to attend Pacific Coast Banking School in Seattle during a long career in banking with People's Bank. Along with his wife, Vera, he moved to Royal City, WA in the Columbia Basin in 1973 where they raised their three children and thoroughly enjoyed the small-town community. Rod and Vera moved to Spokane, WA in 1992 where Rod began a long, second career with the Washington State Department of Transportation as a right-of-way agent. He retired in 2006 and enjoyed golfing, traveling to various locations including Hawaii and Europe, and spending time with family and friends. Though Rod struggled with a long, terminal illness for years, he maintained a positive outlook throughout. The family gathered for his cremation ceremony on Tuesday, December 6 at Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane. A memorial will be scheduled at a later date in the spring of 2017.
