June 22, 1951 - February 28, 2017
With great sadness we announce the passing of our loving Brother, Uncle and Friend, Charles Bancroft. Chuck is survived by Megan Dorsey of Seattle, WA, his dearest friend and companion of nearly 30 years; his siblings, Bonnie Hardenbrook of Spokane WA, Catherine Robinson of Spokane Valley, WA, Christopher Bancroft and wife Jennifer of Sandpoint, ID, Laurie Hopkins and husband Gary, of Greenacres, WA, William Bancroft and wife Sue of Liberty Lake, WA; and his numerous, dearly loved nieces and nephews. And his old cat, Buzz, who will seriously miss him. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Louise Bancroft, and sisters Carol Bancroft Aguillon and Becky Bancroft. - Chuck graduated from Central Valley High School in 1969, and held an education degree from Eastern Washington University. Chuck worked in records management at the EPAs Region 10 Superfunds Records Center in Seattle, WA for nearly 20 years; the last several years as the Centers Manager before his retirement in June 2016. Last August, he relocated from Seattle, his home for more than 40 years, back to his home town of Spokane. - Although Chuck didnt have children of his own, he took pride in being the favorite uncle to his 16 nieces and nephews, as well as his numerous great- and great-great-nieces and nephews. He knew, loved and valued each and every one of them on a meaningful and personal level. Chucks kind and generous spirit was well-respected, as was his sage advice and unvarnished opinions. He was unwavering in his devotion to his loved ones, and open-minded, steadfast and rational in his approach to life. - Chuck was a scholar, historian, and musician. He was an expert in European and American military history, with a special interest in Napoleon and the French Revolution. He was rarely without a book in his hand, usually one that weighed about 5 pounds with 650 pages and a title something like Waterloo: the French Opinion, Volume 14, Third Edition. - Everyone wanted to be on his team while playing our familys intense games of Fictionarybecause he knew everything. His love of music, especially the music of the late 60s, was significant in shaping his life. He loved nothing more than listening and discussing music, and sitting around with his friends playing guitars. - Chucks family and friends are forever grateful to the anonymous donor, whose generous gift of life in 2003 sustained Chuck for an additional 14 years after a liver transplant. His fierce resilience and fortitude, both before and after his transplant, was extraordinary. Please consider being an organ donor. - We will celebrate Chucks life on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Thornhill Valley, 1400 South Pines, Spokane Valley, WA, with a reception following. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to Donate Life Northwest. More information can be found at www.donatelifenw.org Community Cremation & Funeral Spokane Valley - 13127 E.
