Bill Russell Ramey

June 05, 1927 - September 14, 2015

Passed away peacefully September 14, 2015 surrounded by his family. Bill was born in Spokane, Washington to parents Floyd and Marie Ramey on June 5, 1927. He graduated from West Valley High School in 1945, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps 1945-1946. A quilt of valor was recently awarded to Bill Ramey for his service in the US Marine Corps during WWII. He attended Gonzaga and Southern Oregon University. Bill married his high school sweetheart Dorothy (Boures) August 31, 1947, and recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. He was a loving, dedicated father to his 3 children, and was extremely proud of his children’s accomplishments. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Bill enjoyed boating, fishing, and entertaining guests at his cabin at Lake Pend Oreille. He was a master gardener, and his specialty was raising beautiful dahlias of every color and size. He also enjoyed horse racing, as well as building and flying model airplanes. Bill and Dorothy thoroughly enjoyed vacationing with their family, and the one spot Bill was especially fond of was Aruba. He could be found each morning taking long walks on the white sandy beach, and lounging in the warm tropical sun after a dip in the Caribbean Sea. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Jack and Sam Ramey, and two sisters; Marie Marcus and Alma Hann. Bill is survived by his loving wife Dorothy, son Bill Ramey Jr. (Erin), daughters Sherry Stanosch (Joe) and Barbara Hahto (Gaylen), grandchildren Jennifer Ramey, Kurt Stanosch, Keith Hahto, and Ryan Hahto and great grandchildren Jeremiah and Kaleigh, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. There will be a Celebration of Life Service at Millwood Presbyterian Church, 3223 N. Marguerite Rd., Spokane Valley, WA 99212, on Saturday, September 26 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions be made to Hospice House in Spokane, Washington.
