February 20, 1951 - January 12, 2021
Bill left us for a better place on January 12th, 2021, after a long struggle with kidney disease. He was born in Yakima, WA on February 20, 1951 to Bill and Betty Houghton. A sister joined the family two years later. The Houghton family enjoyed being surrounded by many relatives who all enjoyed the outdoors. Fishing, hunting and spending time at his paternal grandparents cabin by Rimrock Lake outside of Naches helped form his love for the outdoors. Many a summer was spent there exploring with his little sister. Due to a job change, the family moved to Spokane in the early sixties, where Bill remained his whole life. He had many adventures that led him away but Spokane was always home. Being born with the gift of gab, Bill was successful working in the auto sales and service arena for many years. He later switched gears and began working for a forest management company that led him back into the outdoors that he loved. He had many adventures and stories to tell from this time of his working career. As his health began to decline, he eventually retired. Bill was very witty and continued to maintain that wit the best he could in his failing health. At times he could be exasperating but was always forgiven by those who loved him. Bill was clever, intelligent, loving, tender hearted and loyal. He maintained many childhood friendships that endure today. On a magical trip to the Grand Canyon with friend Tom, he “walked the sky”. May you always walk the sky, dear brother. Bill went by many names to his friends, Wilbur being the most notable. He was always Billy to his kid sister. Bill is survived by two children, four grandchildren, cousins, an aunt, sister Karen (Jerry), and many friends and acquaintances he made along the way. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
