Beatrice Newsom Wright Morris (Grandma Bea) passed away peacefully April 17, 2026, at the age of 101.
Born in South Dakota with dirt under her fingernails and love for her family in her heart, Bea’s hands were rarely still, and her life was full because of it. She was truly salt of the earth.
Bea began cooking at a young age on a wood stove. The stove heated her small home. Her gardening began as a necessity and grew to be her ultimate love. Bea tended a huge, magnificent garden for decades, sharing plentiful crops and teaching many how to grow those crops. Following her dad’s advice, you can get more seeds in a crooked line. Potatoes, corn, tomatoes, rhubarb, and huge cabbage and zucchini. Numerous berry bushes provided yummy jam, and her special grape juice was a favorite. Neighbors came by often, as did family and friends. Bea’s produce annually won awards at the Spokane County Fair.
Bea had a hearty, infectious, bubbly laugh. She totally got into it, as did those she was with. At Ridgeview Assisted Living, she developed friendships and enjoyed bingo and puzzles. She never missed a meal. Bea was a staff favorite for her unique personality.
Bea was a member of the Eagles for decades. She was the gatekeeper for entrance. She was reliable and never missed her responsibilities. She was always available for her grandkids – she was the best taxi ever. She never missed an athletic event or a dance recital. She loved watching the kids and was still watching the great grandkids in her later years.
Bea was preceded in death by her son, Ron, and is survived by her son, Dick. She is also survived by loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She has given so many a lifetime of memories. A service was held at Pines Cemetery in the Valley on April 30, 2026 at 3:00 PM.
