Barbara Ann Rice

Barbara Ann Rice, 89, died October 16, 2023 in Nine Mile Falls, WA.  She was born in Canton, Ohio September 13, 1934 to parents Charles Vernon Cornell and Frieda Mae Rowan.  Barbara grew up in Spokane, WA and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1953. After spending time in different parts of the country she returned to Spokane to raise her seven children.  On March 3, 1972 she married the love of her life, Chester David Rice, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.  She worked as a bartender throughout Spokane for many years and she and Chet did much traveling around the world before moving to Las Vegas in 1989.  She retired in medical administration. Survivors include brother Charles Vernon Cornell Jr, and sister Patricia Kacalek, both from Spokane; her oldest son David McMahan and wife Stephanie from Ellensburg, WA; Barry McMahan and wife Jovell of Kent, WA; Phillip McMahan and wife Becky of Lenore, ID; daughters LeeAnn Curry and Jana Tevlin and youngest son Alan McMahan all from Spokane, WA. Barbara leaves behind a multitude of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and even some great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Frieda; her husband Chet; sisters Karen Hughes and Janet Cornell; and son Steven McMahan. There will be a celebration of life next spring on Barbara and Chet’s anniversary, March 3, 2024.  Location and time will be determined.
