Arthur Earl Britton

October 02, 1930 - December 31, 2016

Art passed away in Valley Hospital after a long battle with Alzheimers disease. Born in Kansas, and raised in Nebraska, after completion of high school Art joined the United States Air Force. He served as an aircraft mechanic, in part in Japan, during the Korean War. Discharged from the Air Force at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, WA, Art decided to stay and make Spokane his home. After working for Kaiser Aluminum for several years, in 1958, Art joined the Spokane Valley Fire Department. While working as a firefighter for 23 years, Art also did roofing with his sons, owned and operated a cab company and motel, and worked for Banner Fuel. Art ran a cage business for several years, drove a public school bus, and was a contracted driver for train engineers. Art is preceded in death by his father and mother, Fred and Laura Britton, and his brother, John Herbert Britton. He is survived by his wife, Chris; children, Mike (Cheryl) Britton, Rick (Debbie) Britton, Terry (Delaine) Britton, Scott (Arlene) Britton, Heidi (Guy) Benson,: step-children, Sandy (Ron) Fowler, Jeff Moore, Pete Moore, and Brenda (Mark) Smith; and 22 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. He leaves behind sisters-in-law, Carolyn (Ray) Daigen, Jo Ann Madison, Linda Allen, and Pauline (Les) McCann, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Before becoming too ill to attend, Art and his wife Chris were regular attendees of Valley 4th Church for many years. Art was also a volunteer with Prison Fellowship Ministries, working with Chris in local area prisons. Art loved to build and fix things. While working on his own projects, he was often called upon by others for his help. He loved to watch sports, enjoyed Big Band and Christian Gospel music. One day we will be able to sing and dance with him and Jesus on heavens shores. He will be greatly missed. There will be a private interment for family at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery on January 13th. A memorial service for Art will be held on January 14, 2017, at 1:00 p.m., at Valley 4th Church, 2303 S Bowdish Rd, Spokane, WA. A memorial service will be held in Arts honor in Nebraska at a future date. - Community Cremation & Funeral Spokane Valley - 13127 E.
