ANDREA ELIZABETH NIERSTHEIMER (nee Starkey) - - Andrea Elizabeth Nierstheimer, 64, passed away on December 26, 2017, at home in Spokane Valley, after a short illness. She was with her family at the time of her death. Andy was born June 13, 1953 and raised in Hammond, LA, where she attended Ponchitoula High School, and graduated from Hammond Community College before moving to Anchorage Alaska, where she would meet the love of her life and future husband Red Nierstheimer. They were wed on March 8, 1975 in Anchorage AL. They moved to Spokane, WA in 1978 where they made their home. Andrea worked at Rockwood Clinic as a receptionist, retiring in 2011 after 31 years of service. Andrea was a long-standing member of the Inland Northwest Wildlife Council. Her interests included her enjoyment of being a Washington Hunter Education Instructor for the last 15 years and she was looking forward to beginning the 2018 teaching season. She was a member of the Washington State Hunter Education Instructors Association, as both a member and as the representative of the Spokane area on its Board of Directors for several years. She was also a HAM radio enthusiast. She is survived by her daughter, Carrie Nierstheimer, of Spokane; brother Sidney Starkey and sister Charlene Schilling, both of Pumpkin Center, LA; and brother John P. Starkey of Amite, LA. She is also survived by the many youngsters she loved and "adopted into her heart" as her own. Andrea is preceded in death by her husband Marlin "Red" Nierstheimer; parents John N. and Gessner A. Starkey; William "Rip" Starkey; sister Gaye Baird and her husband Randy W. Baird. A memorial service is being held at the Out Post 12614 E Sprague Ave, behind the White Elephant and Conleys Restaurant on Sunday January 28,2018, from 2pm to 5pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her honor to hospice care centers.
