January 04, 1918 - April 21, 2017
Alfred WW. Schultz (b. January 1918) and Carol J. Schultz (nee' Drayton, b.1925) will be laid to rest, together, Saturday May 20, 2017. - Alfred was born in 1918 in Dooley, Montana, the son of David Henry Anton Schultz and Alice Ann Schultz (nee Louther). He served in the Army during World War II. One of his favorite 'war stories' was about a shovel he was given while serving in New Guinea. Digging holes (and laying in them) he would say, is what brought him home. - Alfred spent most of his life using his hands to repair, grow and create things. He and Carol enjoyed a prodigious garden at their home in the Spokane Valley. As a lifetime diesel mechanic, he could fix anything and dabbled in fly tying, rock polishing, coin collecting and implored his neighbors to keep their small community safe and tidy. - Carol was born in 1925 in Otter Tail, Minnesota, the daughter of Walter C. Drayton and Nora Etta Drayton (nee Wyant). Carol grew up on a small farm in Northern Minnesota. She and Al married in June of 1946. She spent most of her life cooking, shopping, cleaning and raising she and Alfred's two children. She loved the color teal, 50s rockabilly music and close friends. In later life, Carol had Parkinson's disease. As her health declined, she moved to Sullivan Park, a nursing home in the Spokane Valley. For more than 10 years, Alfred visited Carol daily, bringing home-cooked meals, clean clothes, photographs and stories. Their mutual devotion was limitless. - Al and Carol moved from Minnesota in 1961 and built a life in the Spokane Valley where they lived in the same home for 56 years. They are survived by their sons, Gale Schultz (b. 1947) and Sheldon Schultz (b. 1949) their sons' wives, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Alfred and his 'Sweetie', as he called Carol, shared all of lifes joys and sorrows during their 64+ years together. - Upon her death in 2010, 'Sweetie' was cremated and kept in an urn at Alfred's bedside. It was their mutual desire to be laid to rest together. Community Cremation & Funeral Spokane Valley - 509-926-2020
