Shirley Ann Watkins, age 90, passed away November 7, 2022. She was born May 16, 1932 in Belfield, ND to Faye Ann Weiler McAdams, being the first of seven children.
She was an accomplished clarinetist at West Valley High School graduating in 1950 with a music scholarship. She was also the 1950 Miss Spokane Valley Lilac Princess. She married her high school sweetheart, Bob Hornick, in 1951. Bob passed away in 1980. She is survived by her two sons and their spouses, Terry (Jan) Hornick, Post Falls, ID, Randy (Joan) Hornick, Columbia, IL; grandsons John and Neil Hornick, Ozark, MO; and six great-grandchildren.
Shirley enjoyed many years as an operating room technician and found it to be her most interesting and rewarding career opportunity. There she met Dr. Jack Watkins, they married in 1982. He preceded her in passing at age 98 in 2019. He was survived by his three children, Mike (Brenda) Watkins, Diane Park, Jeff (Jodi) Watkins, seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Over the years she overcame many hardships and tried her best to be there for her two sons, her mother, and six siblings, always wanting the best for the family. She had a particular fondness for lively discussion and an uncompromising pursuit of perfection. She loved working in the yard and decorating her home, successfully making it photo worthy. She was also the consummate shopper finding value in the most unique places.
Surviving siblings include her two sisters Audrey “Chris” Lynch and Sharlyn Biangasso, and two brothers, Darrel and Shannon McAdams.
At Shirley’s request there will be no services. Shirley will be interned alongside her mother at the Pines Cemetery in Spokane Valley.
