Robert Lee Blattenberger

June 14, 1930 - August 06, 2020

Robert Lee Blattenberger, the 10th of 11 children, born 6/14/30 to Charles & Ruth (Miller) Blattenberger at the home place in Markes, PA, passed on to eternal life on 8/06/20, Spokane WA. Robert enlisted in the Army July 12, 1951 thru June 16, 1953. He served under General McArthur in the Korean Conflict. He received The Korean Serve Medal with 3 bronze service stars & the United Nations service medal. Robert married Jean Stull 6/28/1953 (deceased). They had 4 daughters: Beverly Bumbaugh (Allen) Glen Rock, PA; Barbara Contreras (Sergio) Colbert WA; Peggy Ford (Robert) Montrose, PA; Angela Hartman (Tom) Benton, PA. In 1984 he met & later married Rose Hockenberry (deceased 8/16/19) Mongul, PA. They were together for 35 years. Robert worked as a young boy at Gluck’s Grocery in Markes, PA. He then entered the Army at 21yrs of age. He worked at the Mercersburg Academy in the bookstore & mail room for 11 yrs. For 5 years he managed the Gulf Station in Greencastle & then owned the Gulf station in Chambersburg, PA from 1969 to 1996. He continued working into his retirement years at Fred Nair TV & Appliances in Mercersburg & at Giant Grocery in Chambersburg, PA until he fully retired. Throughout the years, Robert enjoyed roller skating, bowling, playing the trumpet, and many sports activities, including soccer, basketball & running track in his high school years. His main hobbies were riding horses, electric trains and riding the Amtrak across this beautiful country enjoying nature. He loved his nightly ice cream. Growing up Bob attended the Methodist church in Markes, & was a member of the Church of The Brethren in Chambersburg while raising his family. He became a member of the Assembly of God in Shippensburg while married to Rose. Once Rose passed, he lived with his daughter, Barbara, in Colbert, WA & attended Covenant Methodist Church with her family. Robert is survived by his 4 daughters, 12 grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren. His surviving siblings are Betty Gayman & Donald Blattenberger both of PA and numerous nieces & nephews. Due to Covid19 restrictions, a private family grave site military service will be held at Fairmount Memorial Park, Spokane, WA 8/17/20 at 11am
