June 02, 1923 - October 09, 2017
Robert "Bob" James Edgar (Age 94) passed away on October 9, 2017, at home. He was born on June 2, 1923, in Webster, SD, to Elmer and Mable Edgar, the 5th of 7 children. His family moved to Spokane when he was 12. Bob graduated from North Central High School in 1940. At the strong suggestion of his older brother, Mark, he went to work for the Northern Pacific Railroad in 1941 as a fire tender in Trout Creek, MT. In 1943, he was drafted into the Army and served in Europe during World War II with the 42nd Infantry Division. He ascended to the rank of Captain and was in charge of the Lumbach, Austria, ammunition disposal unit at the end of the war. Upon his return, he resumed working for the Northern Pacific, which later merged to become the Burlington Northern Railroad, retiring with 47 years of service. His return to service on the railroad took him to Paradise, MT where he met, Lillaverne Urion. They married in 1952 and then moved to Spokane in 1954 where they raised their four children. Both before and after retirement, Bob was the resident handyman, helping with many projects for family, friends and occasionally, at the request of those family and friends, for strangers. He had a confident way about him as he did these things and, more often than not, a calm presence even if the project wasnt going smoothly. He is survived by his sister, Dana Siebel; his children: Ronald (Sandy) Edgar, Clayton (Patricia) Edgar, Barbara Flynn, and Lavina (Robert) Entel, as well as 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillaverne, his son-in-law, Michael Flynn, and his siblings, Gordon Edgar, Ervin Edgar, Mark Edgar, Marion Erickson, and Hazel Blum. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
