Richard Alan (Rick, Mr. Dick) McCarthy

December 09, 1952 - May 12, 2020

Richard McCarthy (Rick, Mr. Dick) (December 9, 1951- May 12 2020) Rick a beloved Son, Husband, Father and Friend. Rick grew up in North Spokane and graduated from Mead High School. After High School he joined the Military where he fearlessly trained to jump out of planes. He met his first wife in Alaska and they returned to Spokane and raised two wonderful boys whom his world revolved around. Rick worked many years at Kaiser Aluminum. After his children were grown, he moved to Friday Harbor in the San Juan Islands to follow his dream of sailing. He met his 2nd wife on the island and they lived a happy life enjoying sailing and island life. Rick worked at the University of Washington. Rick was an Artist. He welded beautiful creations from custom railings to Garden Art. Rick was known to do things on Rick time, he was slow and steady, but he always did what he said he would. If you were lucky enough to have Rick create something for you, you were happy and didn’t mind the wait. Rick was a beautiful Soul. He will be missed by the many family and friends he had in his life. The McCarthy family lost three loved ones during Covid, their passing's were not caused by Covid but added to the difficulty for their care and planning memorials for all. Our beloved Joe, (brother, Son, Father, Grandfather) lost in 1997 will be put to rest with his brother Rick.
