Phillip Constantine DeMasi

November 12, 1931 - July 23, 2015

Phil was born November 12, 1931, in Seattle, Washington; the only child of Constantin (Gus) John Dimassi and Aslaug Caroline (Carrie) Johansen. His mother, Carrie, passed when he was only three years old. Phil was educated in the Seattle Public School system, graduating from Lincoln High School where he excelled in basketball, pole vaulting, and diving. Phil served two years in the United States Navy at Litchfield Park Naval Air Base in Glendale, Arizona. Upon return from service, Phil met the love of his life, Sandy Calderwood, at a city-wide dance Phil and Sandy married on October 8, 1954, and two years later they moved from Seattle to Spokane to begin employment with Kaiser Aluminum, Mead plant. - Phil became an avid, golfer, playing all of the Spokane municipal and area courses, and planned several golf trips, for friends and family, to various locations, including Jackpot, Nevada. He earned the bragging rights of hitting three holes-in-one in his career. His love for golf was passed down to his children, who continue to play the game on a regular basis. Phil is also known and appreciated by many families for opening his backyard pool to the neighborhood children, teaching them and his grandkids how to swim and dive. Phil took Sandy on wonderful vacations to Hawaii and on Mexican & Caribbean cruises with friends. His favorite trip was in 1996 to Norway to meet the family of his mother. Phil enjoyed the bowling league with Sandy during their senior years. - Phil is survived by his bride of 60 years, Sandy, his daughter Crista (Jim) Henry, his sons Tom (Diane) DeMasi and Mike (Bonnie) DeMasi; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Phil is preceded in death by his father Gus, mother Carrie, and son Patrick. Phil passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, July 23, 2015, with his beloved bride by his side. At Phil's request, there will not be a funeral service. A celebration of life for family and friends is to be scheduled this coming fall.
