Penelope Anne Jones

January 17, 1945 - December 17, 2012

JONES, Penelope Our dearly beloved Penelope â??Pennyâ? Warren Jones died on December 17, 2012 after a two year battle with cancer. Penny was born at Farragut Naval Station, Idaho on January 17, 1945 to Robert Beck Warren and Georgiene Wright Warren. After losing her father at only four, Penny attended elementary school in Spokane, followed by four years of study in London, England and returned to finish high school in Lakewood, Washington. Penny attended several universities around the world and graduated from Eastern Washington University in 2002. She received a second degree in Spanish the following year after living and studying in Spain and Mexico. In 1964 she returned to London with her family and was employed as an Air Force Civilian until 1966. She married Douglas Frederick de Landro in 1966 and they moved to Portland, Oregon that year. They were divorced in 1972. Penny worked in the export business as a documentation supervisor until 1975 when she married Jack Brace and moved to Spokane, Washington. Penny was involved in the lumber business, land development projects in Arizona and Bellevue, WA, and several other businesses until 1999, when she and Jack were divorced. In 2006 she married Frederick Lee Jones and they had nearly seven happy years together until her death. Together they travelled extensively in the U.S. and cruised the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. Penny particularly enjoyed the many large family gatherings and dinners in her own home, and greatly enjoyed and appreciated the loving welcomes extended by her husband Fredâ??s family, all of whom dearly loved Penny. Penny was a former Lilac Festival director and was the Treasurer for the Spokane Symphony Associates for a couple of years. In addition to many charitable organizations, she was a member of the Spokane Club, the Compass Club, Grass Roots Garden Club, the Trailhead Ladies Golf Group and a member of the BAGG Investment Club. Penny loved the outdoors and enjoyed golf, swimming, and gardening, as well as dancing and bridge, at which she excelled. Penny was the consummate scholar, forever in learning-mode, forever inquiring into all aspects of the world around her. At her husband Fredâ??s urging, Penny tested and qualified as a contestant for her favorite game show, Jeopardy, entering the pool of prospective candidates, but feeling great relief when her number was never drawn during the random drawings. Always the familyâ??s bedrock of stability, she remained the bulwark of her family, protecting, guiding, always the ultimate source of wise counsel. Penny is survived by her husband, Frederick Lee Jones; her sons, Douglas Warren de Landro and Jack Brace, Jr.; her mother, Gina Dâ??Angelo; brothers, David Warren and Brian Dâ??Angelo, and grand- children Andrea, Margaux and Jacob
