Peggy Lee Phelps

PHELPS, Peggy “Peg” - (Age 73) - Peg died peacefully, at home with her husband on May 9, 2021 from complications of diabetes. - Peg was born on September 30, 1947 in Carthage, Illinois, the first-born child of Oscar and Freda Rampley. - In 1966 Peg married Kenneth Coleman, together they had three children. Ken died along with Peg’s youngest brother, Rex, in a tragic drowning in 1973. As a single parent, Peg put herself through nursing school at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, IL. Throughout her nursing career, she was an advocate for quality and compassionate patient care, and life and death with dignity. - Peg instilled in her children a great family bond as they remain closest of friends to this day. She also passed on a great sense of adventure and love of travel by sharing numerous planned and impromptu road trips including RV’ing to Florida, a van trip to Colorado, weekends in Chicago and a cruise or two. Another passion she passed on is her love of dogs, Peg and her children have never lived a day without a dog. - In 1990, Peg married the man who gave his all to put a smile on her face and a glow in her heart, Douglas Phelps. Life took them to Spokane, Washington, where she found her beloved home until her death. Peg passionately supported Doug in building his law firm and together, they enjoyed traveling, raising, breeding, and showing English Setters, and volunteering with Union Gospel Mission. - In recent years, Peg was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes leading to renal failure and dialysis. Peg continued to advocate for quality of care and life for her friends in dialysis and for living donors of kidneys. - Peg was preceded in death by her youngest brother, Rex; her first husband, Kenneth; and her father and mother, Oscar and Freda Rampley. She is survived by her husband, Douglas Phelps; mother-in-law, Norma Phelps; brother, Curtis (Rita) Rampley; her children Tamara Falk, Todd (Treasa) Coleman, Tarena (Chris) Coleman, Jonathan (Julie) Phelps; her grandchildren Megan (Anders), Isaac, Chyanne, John, Zoey, Karman, Bryson, Ashlyn and Emma; great-grandchildren, Karin and Olivia; brothers and sisters-in-law; multiple nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews; and multiple dogs, grand dogs, and great grand dogs. - The immediate family has planned a private memorial trip to Orcas Island where Peg loved to visit and take friends and family whenever she was able. - In lieu of flowers, her family has set up a memorial fund to help other students at Lincoln Land Community College. On the designation, please choose “other designation” and include Peggy Phelps’ name.
