Michael William Codd

August 01, 1946 - July 24, 2016

Michael W. Codd passed away peacefully July 24, 2016 after a 3 ½ yearlong battle with a rare bladder cancer (PUC). He was born August 1, 1946 in Spokane, WA to Charles and LaVonne Codd. He spent his first year of life in Davenport, WA but all the rest of his years were spent in Spokane. Mike was raised on the South Hill and attended school at Sacred Heart, Lincoln Heights, and Lewis & Clark. His classmates at Lincoln Heights continued to get together yearly. Mike loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and boating; he also loved baseball, bowling and golf. Mike was involved with bowling for many years. He served over 26 years in the Spokane Bowling Association, two terms as President, director of Special Olympics and anything else that needed to be done. Mike also served as the President of the Northwest International Bowling Congress; he was in the Hall of Fame for both. Mike worked in the grocery business for over 39 years as a building engineer. He was there when the first shovel of dirt was moved for the warehouse that he cared for over 42 years. After retiring, he joined IESGA and made many new friends and rekindled many old ones. He played golf in his last golf tournament, June 29th. We always said he was a fighter and he definitely fought until the day the Lord took him home. Mike adored his four grandchildren and met his goal of seeing each of them graduate. Mike is survived by his wife, Marilee A. Codd; his daughters, Jennifer (Greg) Simpson of Spokane and Debra M. Hollis of Jacksonville, FL; his grandchildren, Lauren A. Simpson, Andrew B. Simpson and Mason D. Hollis, Mishaela S. Hollis of Jacksonville, FL; his siblings, Jim (Vicki) Codd, Pam Divine, Charlie (Coleen) Codd of Colorado, Bob Codd, and Cindy Codd of Portland, OR; and his great aunt, Natile Brown (Concie) of Spokane, WA. Mike was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 10am at Center Place 2426 N. Discovery Place, Spokane Valley, WA 99216 immediately followed by a luncheon at Mirabeau Meadows Pavilion. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Spokane County USBC/Special Olympics or Hospice of Spokane. Community Cremation & Funeral - Spokane Valley - 13127 E.
