Marilyn Mae Hammond

December 13, 1930 - May 30, 2014

A resident of Spokane, peacefully passed away May 30, 2014 at Hospice House of Spokane. Marilyn was born December 13, 1930 to Clive and Edith Egbert in Ruff, Washington. She attended school and graduated from Hartline High School in 1948. Marilyn married Wesley Brittain and they lived in Chewelah, Washington where they raised their daughters Dorene, Debbie and Mary Kay. Marilyn will be remembered as a doting and loving mother and grandmother. Her family embraces a lifetime of memories because of her fun-loving spirit, great strength, selflessness and her special attention to each family member. Marilyn was a natural-born business woman working in the grocery industry and in time managing the Chewelah IGA. Later she became a successful realtor in the Colville Valley and eventually worked with her second husband in land development throughout Alaska, Texas and Oregon. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Mary Kay; her parents; her husband, Robert Hammond; and former husband, Wesley Brittain. Survivors include daughters, Dorene Brown (Gary) of Spokane and Debbie Sunderland (Jon) of Spokane; eight grandchildren: Kara Nelson (Charles), Nicholas Shaber, Alec Sunderland, Gabriel Brown, Cary Auguston (Jennifer), Gary Wm Brown, Marcella Gray (Kurt), Polly Flachman (Greg); 13 great-grandchildren; her sister, Donna Reed (Stan) of Washougal and brother, Gene Egbert (Gayl) of Moses Lake. Marilyn's ashes will be placed with her daughter, Mary Kay, at a private graveside service. Dorene and Debbie are inviting all family and friends to join them for a reception, 1 pm on June 7th, at The United Church of Christ, Hwy 395 and Webster St. in Chewelah, WA. In lieu of flowers, remembrance gifts may be made to Hospice of Spokane, 121 S. Arthur, PO Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210.
