Lyle Elwin Balderson

November 13, 1930 - May 23, 2015

Lyle was born in a log cabin near Newport, Washington on November 13, 1930. He and his four siblings grew up in Newport, attended Newport High School, and as high school sweethearts, met his wife of over 65 years, Mary E. Balderson (Taylor). Shortly after his wedding day he and several of his friends enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War. Lyle served from January 6, 1951 until November 30, 1954, spending most of his time in the service aboard the USS General Anderson transporting troops back and forth from Korea, Japan, and San Francisco. After he received his honorable discharge from the Navy, Lyle enrolled at Eastern Washington State College. He graduated with a degree in Public Planning and began his career in the planning department in the city of Pasco, Washington. For the next 30 years Lyle and his growing family lived in several different cities around the Northwest as his career advanced cumulating as the Director of Planning for the City of Spokane. He retired from that job in 1991. During the following 10 years he and Mary travelled the world extensively, visiting Europe several times, Russia, and cruising the Panama Canal. - Lyle is survived by his wife Mary, his three children, Karen Strong, Sally Purvine, and Michael Balderson, three grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and his brother Gale and sisters Linda and Fern.
