Lawrence (Larry) Harvey Jackson (Age 93) was born January 31, 1924 on the family farm outside Hoopeston, IL. He passed away October 6, 2017. He attended John Greer High School, and married Agnes Patricia Young shortly after graduating. In 1944 Larry joined the United States Marine Corps. After recruit training in San Diego and Puvuvu, he spent 81 days in actual combat in Okinawa and finished his military obligation in Tientsin during the occupation of China. Upon returning to Illinois, he worked at the Harrison Steel Mill in Attica, IN while also sharecropping at the same time. He moved his family to Spokane in 1954 and eventually owned an Amoco Service Station on the SW corner of Monroe St. and Walton Ave. In 1965, he was divorced from his first wife. Children from that marriage are; Allan (June) Jackson, Stephen (Terry) Jackson, Kathy (Roy) Powell, Scott (Glynis) Jackson and Bruce (Cindy) Jackson. Larry is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. In 1985, he retired to a home on Badger Lake where he enjoyed fishing and travelling with his wife Sally, who passed away in 2016. A Memorial Service for Larry will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, October 16th, at the Church of the Nazarene, 338 W Betz Rd, Cheney, WA 99004. His family would like to thank his neighbors at Badger Lake for their prayers and love, and all the nurses and caregivers at the VA Hospice Unit for making his last days as pleasant and painless as possible.
