MEARS, Kathleen “Kay” Claire (Hartnett) - (Age 89) - Kathleen of Spokane passed away peacefully on Monday May 7, 2018 in Spokane surrounded by her children. Kay was born on April 4, 1929 to Elizabeth S. Hussman (Hartnett) and John E. Hartnett. She grew up in Spokane with her brothers and sisters. Kathleen attended Trinity Catholic School at St. Anthony’s and graduated from Marycliff High School class of 1947. Kay went onto do what she was always meant to be and do. She became a Registered Nurse, receiving her education from Sacred Heart School of Nursing class of 1951. She went on starting her family and came back to Spokane in 1972. She went to work at Rockwood Clinic in 1976 and worked there for 24 years. Many of the employees knew her by “Mother Mears” Mom was a caregiver through and through. Kay served her church here at St. Anthony. Her love for animals was a big part of her caring spirit. She loved to cook and bake, following the recipes of her mom. Mom would rather worry about you than herself. If she was able to help in any way, she would. - Kathleen is survived by her children all of Spokane; Christine Coomes, Michael J. Mears Jr., Joanne Roberts (Mears), and Susan Sullivan (Mears); beloved grandmother of nine and great-grandmother of seven; many nieces and nephews, and a special brother in law Dee Seropian. She is preceded in death by her parents John E and Elizabeth S. Hartnett, James Hartnett, John “Jack” Hartnett, her twin brother Richard “Dick” Hartnett, Patricia Kuhn (Hartnett), and June Seropian (Hartnett). - A Funeral Service will be held Saturday May 19, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony’s Church 2320 N Cedar Street, Spokane, WA 99205. The family would like to thank Evergreen at Royal Park for their care. In lieu of flowers please make contributions in Kay’s name to St. Anthony’s Church or the local Humane Society.
