Gregory John Karney

November 01, 1946 - May 08, 2022

Our world got less bright on May 8, 2022 with the passing of Gregory J. Karney. After a short battle with lung cancer, Greg passed away peacefully at home with his family surrounding him. Greg was born to Paul and Helen Karney in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 1st, 1946. Greg graduated from Bishop Egan High School and immediately joined the Air Force. He spent one year serving overseas in Korea. The remainder of his service was spent at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho. While finishing his service in Idaho, Greg met his future wife Jacqueline Fisher, who he later married in November 1968. After the service. Greg graduated from Eastern Washington University in 1971. With a Bachelor of Arts in business and finance. Greg worked at Kaiser Aluminum shortly after as a production foreman and retired in 1995. Greg has lived in Spokane since 1968. He loved the PNW. He was an avid fly fisherman. He skied and camped often with his sons. Greg always had coffee with his close friend every week at a nearby bakery. He has kept in close touch with his high school friends, which is quite remarkable as they all still reside in Philadelphia. He had many friends in the Spokane area and he truly enjoyed knowing them throughout the years. He was a fan of the Seahawks and Mariners, but kept a watchful eye on the Philadelphia Eagles and the Phillies. Greg has one grandson, Corbin. His grandson was the apple of his eye. He truly loved him for the short time he got to be in his life. We will miss our husband, father, grandfather and friend forever. He is survived by his wife Jackie, two sons, Aaron (Amanda) of Gresham, Oregon and Matthew of Spokane, and his grandson Corbin. PNW Cremation is providing funeral arrangements please see www.pnwcremation.com and go to obituaries for more tributes to Greg. Wellesley Avenue, Spokane, WA 99205, with a reception immediately following at the same venue. The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to the American Lung Association.
