Fay Betty Steen

August 05, 1925 - March 15, 2013

STEEN, FAY August 5, 1925 March 15, 2013 Fay Betty (Good) Steen, 87, was born in Staples Minnesota to Roy and Olga (Olson) Good in 1925. The family moved to the Spokane Valley when she was three years old and she lived in the Spokane area the rest of her life. She graduated from West Valley High School where she was the lead majorette for the West Valley marching band. Fay married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Burton Steen in 1944. Burt served in the Army Air Force Corps during World War II. Fay and Burt had four daughters; Patricia (Steen) Trombley who lived in Anchorage Alaska, Polly (Steen) Smith of Veneta Oregon, Shari (Steen) Stowell of Medical Lake, and Shelley (Steen) Samsel of Spokane. As a family they enjoyed many years of skiing, boating, fishing, camping and singing around the campfire. Fay and her family attended First Covenant Church, where she was an active member all of her life. Fay was preceded in death by her husband Burt Steen in 1986, her daughter Patricia Trombley in 2001, both from cancer, infant grandson Eric Trombley in 1968, and son-in-law Jim Trombley in 2010. She is survived by three daughters and their husbands, eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Fay was a talented artist in oils and water colors. She had many paintings on display in Spokane churches and businesses. She was a Docent (guide) in the art gallery of the Cheney Cowles Museum (now called the MAC) for 15 years. She belonged to the Spokane Symphony Association, Opera Buffs, and River Ridge Fine Arts Association. She greatly enjoyed live theater and regularly attended performances at the Civic Theater and the Coeur d'Alene Summer Theater. Fay was a kind hearted and loving mother. She had a wonderful sense of humor even while she was very ill near the last of her life. She was a great encourager of friends and family.
