Erlene Lee Fields

December 12, 1930 - December 20, 2015

Erlene Lee Fields passed away in God’s arms on December 20, 2015. Erlene was born in Kellogg, Idaho, on December 12, 1930, the only child of Erle and Grace Bunch. Erlene lived in Smelterville and later moved to Cataldo, attending elementary school in a one-room school house. She graduated from Rogers High School in 1948 and that same year was chosen Spokane’s First Miss Armed Forces. She enrolled in Quantometer College and married in 1949, later worked for Intermountain Machinery, ITT Kellogg, and Duane Alton for 25 years. She was also a homemaker, mother of four, grandmother of five, and great grandmother of 17. While raising her family, she enjoyed camping, fishing, sharing holiday meals with her family, and participating in church activities. Erlene enjoyed traveling, reading, collecting salt and pepper shakers, raising Siamese cats, and staying in contact with her lifelong high school friends. She loved gospel music, old hymns and watching old game shows and movies on TV. She was predeceased by her husband, Conrad Max Fields, in 1999, and the love of her life became a dachshund named “Bogie”. She was very proud of her family, her faith in God, and she loved to find the humor and joy in any given situation. Our mother was the purest and most precious woman we know, with so many adorable qualities. Her spirit will live on in our hearts and minds forever, and her unconditional love and sweet demeanor was unsurpassed. We love you, mom! Erlene was preceded in death by her parents, Grace Orchard Beau and Jerry Beau, and her father, Erle Bunch. Survivors include her sons and their spouses: Robert Lightfoot (former wife Cathy), Michael (Mary) Lightfoot, Timothy (Mary) Fields; her daughter LeAnn Fields; and her sister Patty Fisher. Grandchildren include: Sheila Boucher, Raché Duez, Robbie Lightfoot, Michael Parks, Jeremy Lightfoot; 17 great grandchildren, nieces, a nephew, cousins, her friends at New Hope Bible, and the ladies she kept in touch with since high school. She cherished her friendships with many including close family friends Duane Alton, Carol Aga, Irma Geis, Berniece Kinsel, and a long list of others. A celebration of life service will be held in late March of 2016. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Spokane Humane Society. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the administrative staff and caretakers at Guardian Angel Homes in Liberty Lake and Hospice of Spokane for their loving care and compassion in making Erlene’s last days comfortable.
