Darlene Van Slyke

October 24, 1942 - April 08, 2016

Darlene passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on April 8, 2016 in Spokane, Washington, surrounded by family. Born to Virgil and Helen Snyder on October 24, 1942, Darlene grew up on a wheat farm in Washtucna, Wa. She was Washtucna H.S. class valedictorian in 1960. In high school, she met and fell in love with James Van Slyke. They were married on December 8, 1962, after Darlene graduated from Kinman Business School. Darlene and Jim lived in Moses Lake, Port Townsend (37 years) and most recently in Spokane Valley. - She is survived by her husband Jim; son Kirk Van Slyke; daughter Julie Blyckert (John); six grandchildren (Collin, Micah, Kailey, Adam, Amy and Noah); and sister Jeanne Zepp (and family). - Darlene was a retired Vice President from Bank of America. She was also an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, The Soroptomists International Club, Newcomers of Spokane Valley and The Spokane Elks. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was her pride and joy and she cherished her time spent with them. - Those who knew Darlene best would say she taught them how to live life to the fullest, care for the needy, and spread laughter whenever possible. She was an incredible hostess and loved to cook for family and friends. She will be remembered for her witty sense of humor and her incredibly deep love of her family and friends.
