April 19, 1937 - February 15, 2022
Barbara passed away on January 15, 2022, at Hospice House of Spokane surrounded by her family. She was 84 years old. ‘Barb’ was born in Spokane on April 19, 1937, and went on to attended Rogers High School. She met her husband, David, at a local dance club ‘The Spot’. They danced, they married, they had three sons and they spent a long life together until Dave passed away just before their 65th anniversary in May of 2021. She worked as an executive secretary for different organizations over her career retiring from the Spokane Regional Health District after 20 years, a job and community of people she loved. Barb had a passion for cooking, especially baking, learning from her mother over a wood stove. Christmas parties at her home were legendary for her holiday treats with weeks of baking in preparation. From Thanksgiving dinner to Sunday meals to parties at ‘the Lake’, all were welcome, and many, many friends and family enjoyed time at our table. There was always room for one more. Her sons published ‘Cookin with Barb!’, a cookbook filled with comfort food and family favorites from fried chicken to kids treats to, of course, Christmas baking! She is survived by her sons, Ron (Staci), Greg (Melinda) and Brian (Sally), grandchildren Ryan, Andy, Madi, Cyndi, Samantha, Justin, Shelby, Matt and Kyle, great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. She often expressed how much she loved and appreciated her family and being grandma and GG (great-grandma) were among her life’s joys. Barb was open and friendly and, most especially, she was kind. She had a gift in making you feel special. She will be missed for her fun personality, quirky sense of humor, genuine warmth, and generous spirit. Her singing of Happy Birthday to you was both a terrible and immensely enjoyable experience. We love her so much and will miss her greatly. The family suggests donations to Hospice House of Spokane and thanks them for their compassionate care.
