Donald Harry Hjort

May 12, 1935 - December 19, 2015

Don passed away December 19 after a hard-fought battle with dementia/Alzheimer’s. He was born on May 12, 1935, in Great Falls, Montana, to Wilma (Hjort) Bates and Harry Hjort. Don was the youngest of three children. He graduated from Central Valley High School in 1953 and was an exceptional athlete, well-liked by his classmates. Don worked at Kaiser Aluminum Trentwood for 35 years as a pipefitter. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing, horse racing, bowling and all kinds of casino games. He was very proud of his children and attended as many of their sporting events as possible with great pride. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who had the chance to know him. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Wilma and Harry, and two sisters, Gladys Rocconella and Helen Irwin. He was married to Patricia Hjort for 38 years and survived by two daughters, Donna Hjort and Kathy Stumph, two sons, Jeffrey Hjort and Roger Hjort, two grandsons, Zachary Hjort and Jason Stumph and great grandson, Caden Stumph. The family would like to thank the loving staff and residents at The Gardens on University for their love, friendship and selfless service to our father and friend. In remembrance of Don, a “Celebration of Life” is planned for January 18, at the Spokane Valley Eagles from 1:00 – 5:00. Community Cremation & Funeral - Spokane Valley - 13127 E.
