SUTHERLAND, Carol Beth (Age 75) Into the waiting arms of the Lord, our mother, Carol Beth Sutherland, passed away peacefully on May 25th, 2015 at the age of 75 after a brief bout with cancer. Carol was born on December 7th, 1939 in Pasadena, California to Holly W. and Martha E. Claybrook. She attended Pasadena High School, graduating in 1958 and attended Pasadena City College for two years. In 1960, she was a Rose Parade Princess and served in the Royal Court. That same year, Carol married Dean R. Sutherland and they set about to raise a family in their home town. In 1970, the family moved to Spokane, Washington where they still reside. Carol was a supportive wife and a wonderful stay-at-home mom to three sons: Scott (54), Mark (51) and Tyler (47) and they all succeed today due to the care and guidance of their mother. She was also very active in her church and worked as a volunteer for the American Red Cross for many years. Carol is also survived by her grandchildren, Rachel (25), Ryan (22), Reed (20), Matthew (18) and Parker (14); daughters-in-law, Tammy, Dusti and Heather as well as a number of close friends. Her father, Holly, preceded her in death in 2000 at the age of 93 and her mother, Martha, who she was very devoted to, passed away recently at the age of 103. The family would like to thank both Cancer Care and Spokane Hospice for their kind and gentle care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to the Spokane Guild School. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
