Obituary for Wayne Russell Johnson

Wayne Johnson, 63, of Nine Mile Falls, WA passed away unexpectedly May 29, 2017 at Holy Family Hospital in Spokane, WA. Wayne (a.k.a., "Wayner" and "Waynedear") was born in Olivia, MN on November 7, 1953.
He graduated from Olivia High School where he played coronet in band and was on the wrestling team. Wayne studied technical illustration at Willmar Area Vocational Technical Institute (WAVTI). While in Minnesota, he drew exploded views of a street sweeper for the replacement parts catalog. Later, Wayne worked for Boeing in Kent, WA, where he became a Lead Technical Illustrator of parts breakdown maintenance manuals for several military programs. Wayne met his wife, Marilyn, when working on the Roland program. After 34 years with Boeing, he retired and moved to Nine Mile Falls, WA.
Wayne enjoyed golfing and fantasy football. He was on various bowling leagues and could get strikes throwing the ball around his back and between his legs. He tickled many funny bones with his quick wit and ability to turn a phrase.
Fishing in Minnesota and throughout the Pacific Northwest, Wayne caught lots of Walleye, Steelhead and other salmon. He loved camping and boating. Wayne spent several years river rafting and kayaking with Boeing Employees Whitewater & Touring club (BEWET). He rafted down and camped along the Wallowa and Grande Rhonde rivers with friends and family, including his two sons when they were only 5 and 3 years old.
Wayne mostly enjoyed raising his boys. He supported them in sports and dog 4-H and he took them on many camping trips. Wayne shared an interest in music with Russell and fishing with Steven. In 2010, he drove 4,500 miles in 14 days taking the family on an amazing, trip through 9 national parks and 9 states.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, sons, Steven and Russell, and brothers, Robert (wife Sandy) and David (wife Nan). His parents, Roy and Jewell Johnson, and his sister, Gayle Trotter, preceded him in death. A celebration of Wayne's life is being planned, in the Spokane area. Remembrances can be made to the Tum Tum Food Pantry, 6424 Hwy 291, Nine Mile Falls WA 99026.
