Shirley Melba Marion (Age 93) - Shirley was born to Melba and Clarence Gough on October 10, 1923 in Salt Lake City, UT. She passed away March 2, 2017 in Spokane. She came to Spokane in 1939 and entered Lewis & Clark High School as a sophomore graduating in 1941. Shirley lived in the Spokane area for most of her life enjoying all that the great northwest has to offer. Her working career started with the Old National Bank in 1941 and remained in the banking industry as she worked at the Newport Harbor bank in California, Seattle First National Bank in Spokane, Grandview Security Bank in Grandview, National Bank of Commerce and retiring from Bank of America in Spokane. Shirley married Clare Cater in 1943 and had two children with this marriage - Ron Cater (Lindy) and Cheryl Catt, both in Spokane. In 1949, Shirley and Clare divorced and Shirley raised her two children as a single mom. This gives you some idea about strength of her character. In 1963, she married Lloyd Marion and they had a son, Mark Marion (Nancy Nowlin), Renton, WA. Lloyd passed away in 2000. Shirley had two brothers Dale Gough and Norman Gough who preceded her in death. She has three grandchildren - Ben Cater (Shawna Buzzingham), in Spokane, Charlie Cater (Poorvi Chitalkar), currently in Nairobi, Kenya, and Kelli Goodwin (Elisa Sansalone), in Seattle. Jasmin Liwanag, Shirley's great-granddaughter, also lives in Spokane. Shirley, is also survived by her dear friend and sister-in-law, Jeanne Gough, at the Fairwood Retirement Community. Shirley was an active member in the Audubon Methodist Church until she moved to the Fairwood Retirement Community and travel became difficult. Shirley was always active. Playing bridge, scrabble, dominos, and painting were her favorite pastimes. She loved people and was always concerned about the welfare of those around her. A memorial service is not planned, based on Shirley's wishes. Donations in her memory can be made to Hospice of Spokane - Box 2215 - Spokane, WA 99210 or a charity of your choice.
