Obituary for Rupert Jack Sampson

SAMPSON, Rupert Jackson
(Age 96)
Jack left this earth peacefully from his home on February 5, 2017. Jack Grumpy Sampson was born on Valentines Day, 1920 in Tacoma, WA, the only child of Rupert Otis and Susan Sampson. He graduated from North Central High School in Spokane and attended the University of Washington. In 1944, he met and married the love of his life, Allie Belt, in Seattle during WWII. Both worked for Boeing.
After the war, Jack and his bride settled in Spokane. They were married for 47 years until Allie passed in 1991. Jack worked for the Washington Water Power Company/Avista, for 37 years. He retired in 1982. He was a member of the IBEW, Local 77 for 72 years.
He retired in Newport, WA, joined St. Anthonys Catholic Church, and continued his lay ministry work participating in their Visitation to the Homebound Program for many years. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the Inland Empire Doll Club through his A & J Dolls business for decades.
He is lovingly remembered and will be greatly missed by his three children, twin daughters Jackie Sampson Knapp and Diana Sampson Fleming, and son Jeffrey Rupert Sampson; five grandchildren, Lynette Sloan, Don Fleming, Jacquie Little, Valerie Nussbaumer, and Jonathan Sampson; ten great-grandchildren, Jordyn Fleming, Bradyn and Lincoln Sloan, Kody Waddell, Ethan Bowman, Tucker and Cheyannae Hughes, Scottie and Tyler Little, and Hunter Nussbaumer; along with other family members and dear friends.
Jack was a direct descendant of Abraham Sampson and Henry Sampson, passengers on the Mayflower. He loved the arts and was a voracious reader. The poor, and less fortunate were always in his heart. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Medical Lake Food Bank, PO BX 461, Medical Lake, WA 99022, in honor of his memory.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 24 at 1:30 pm at Fairmont Memorial Park, Sunset Chapel, 5200 W. Wellesley, Spokane, WA 99205. Interment will follow immediately.
Grumpy, you leave us with incredible memories and we miss you!
