Robert Roy Anderson

June 09, 1925 - February 06, 2014

Bob, a lifelong Spokane resident, was born June 9, 1925, to William H. and Violet B. (Nickerson) Anderson. Went to be with the Lord on Feb. 6 2014, at his home with his children present. Attended J.J. Browne School and North Central H.S. Joined the US Navy in Aug. 1943. Trained at Farragut and served as a gunner aboard Liberty ships that took him around the world during WWII. He received an honorable discharge in Dec. 1945. In early 1946, while attending trade school, Bob met Vernita. They married Nov. 1947 and were married for 50 years. Vernita passed away in May, 1998. They had five children. He retired from Prudential Distributors after working in the electronics industry his whole career. During that time Bob played fast pitch softball for many years, mostly with the Maxwell House Tavern team. In 1983, he was inducted into the Inland Empire Softball Hall of Fame. In 2013 he was honored with the 50â??s Team of the Decade â?? Rainier. Also, he played for the Spokane Old-timers with the original teams to play snowshoe softball at Priest Lake. Dad had a lifelong love of music, playing piano, guitar, mandolin, and even some banjo, mostly at family functions and fiddle contests. He enjoyed several trips to the National Old-time Fiddlers contest in Weiser, ID. Another pastime he enjoyed was dancing at the Eagles, VFW and DAV, where he met his sweetheart of 13 years, Marjorie Luiten. Bob and Marge shared their companionship, family, friends, two cockatiels, and special dog, Prince. Preceded in death by his parents, wife Vernita, brother Bill, five sisters, Marcella, Irene, Velva Gay, Lois and Joanne, an infant daughter Violet, a granddaughter Robin, and daughter-in-law Lisa. Survived by one sister, Marjorie Shaw of Newport, WA, children Rodney (Diane), Darlene (Brent) Kimball, Tammy (Mark) Breithaupt, Tim (Kathy), Sheri (Dean) Bickelhaupt; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
