Robert Clarence McDaniel

August 27, 1935 - April 02, 2021

Robert Clarence McDaniel - Born August 27, 1935 in Culver City, California - To Agnes Gertrude and Clarence Theodore. McDaniel, Robert Clarence (Bob) passed away at the age of 85 in Spokane, WA on Good Friday, April 2, 2021. Bob grew up in Los Angeles, California and graduated from Mission High School in San Francisco in 1953. He joined the Army in 1954 then transferred to the Air Force, serving 6 years total and received 3 medals during his time in service, including one for Good Conduct. In 1946, Bob came to know Jesus and was baptized in a river in Charlotte, North Carolina. Bob met the first love of his life, Sylvia Lee Sutliffe at a dance in Tacoma, Washington while on leave from Fairfield Air Force Base in California. They were married November 1st, 1956 and made their home in southern California. During his years in California he attended Los Angeles State, Long Beach City, and Citrus Jr. Colleges graduating with a BA in Police Science. He served as a police officer on the LAPD from 1960-1970. He was promoted Sergeant and also Commander of the Hollywood Division in 1969, based on his exceptional merits and experience. Bob and Sylvia had two children, John Allen and Lisa Ann, and in 1970 they moved to Seattle, WA to be closer to both sets of grandparents. Continuing to work hard and live life to the fullest, he took courses in Dale Carnegie Personal Effectiveness, Insurance and real estate. In 1980 his son John married Patti Pool and the following year the first grandchild, Lance Robert McDaniel was born. Bob married Sandra (Sandy) Ebbesen in 1985 and became a big part of another family. He was happy as his family was growing. He was so proud to be with his daughter Lisa when she gave birth to his granddaughter Jasmine Gifford. The saddest part of Bob’s life was in 1992, after a tragic accident where his son, John Allen, was called home to Jesus. Robert lived his final years in Bothell with his wife Sandy, and stepdaughter Pam, who graciously took care of both Bob and Sandy after her cancer diagnosis in 2016. In the fall of 2019, after the death of his wife, Bob moved to Spokane to be closer to his grandchildren. He spent his last year of life at Providence Senior Home and was on services with Horizon Hospice and Palliative care. Bob always looked forward to his visits from his family and his greatest joy was playing cribbage and visiting with his grandson Lance McDaniel. It brought him much joy to spend time visiting and laughing with Lisa, Lance, Patti and the rest of his family, who cared for Bob deeply. He came to love his new-found friends in Spokane, who took care of Bob. Words cannot express our deep gratitude to his nurse Debbie, Janet, Teresa, Lyuba, Sandu and all the care team who provided exceptional care and love for Bob, who spoiled him in all the best ways possible. Bob was a wonderful father, grandfather, and friend to all whom he came in contact with. He believed in God and brought up his children in the church, with good values, manner, healthy living, exercise and a positive outlook on life. He loved watching sports and absolutely loved playing games with friends and family, enjoyed lively music, delicious food, conversation and laughter. He was a strong stead-fast man who worked hard, enjoyed it, and was thorough in everything he did. He will be remembered for his humor, honesty, his courage and his wisdom. Also, he will be remembered for his prowess at the game of cribbage, second only to his grandson Lance (he would definitely debate this claim). He passed away peacefully on April 2nd 2021 at Providence Senior Home in Spokane, WA. His family and loved ones were with him in his final days and hours of his life. Bob has been preceded in death by his son, John Allen, son-in-law Neil Van Voorst Sr., stepson Doug Ebbesen, great granddaughter Nova Ray Johnson and late wives Sylvia and Sandra. - He is survived by his daughter Lisa Ann McDaniel, stepdaughter Pam Johnson, stepson Randy Ebbesen, and daughter-in-law Patti Carrier. He was so blessed to have eleven beautiful and extraordinary grandchildren and six great grandchildren. We will be holding a celebration of his life on May 22nd at 4pm at 21624 N Big George Lane, Colbert, WA 99205. In lieu of flowers, please play a game of cribbage in his name.
