May 13, 1950 - April 18, 2017
Born May 13th in 1950, Paula Faye Jackson was the first of 6 children from Clinton, Indiana. She moved to the Seattle area in 1968 and met and married George Thomas Birge Sr. They soon moved to Spokane, where they had children, settling in a home on SE Lacey St. She was known as the "neighborhood mom", often feeding and teaching area kids culinary skills. Paula worked as a Nutritionist for Spokane County in the 1970s and 80s, helping as an instructor and navigator for refugee and immigrant families. She also worked as an administrator for the 1990 U.S. Census as well as a service provider for area group home facilities. Paula was a kind and generous lady who loved people and telling stories, often making fast friends with complete strangers. She loved music & singing and was an excellent cook & baker, her specialty being brownies. She loved antiques and thrift stores, searching for anything in a ladybug or frog motif. Paula had an incredible sense of humor and a easy-going disposition. She was very loved and will be deeply missed. She is survived by three children, five siblings, many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
