Obituary for Patricia Maxine Brandvold

Patricia (Johnson)

Paddy was born in 1927 in Reardan Washington, she was the second daughter born to Ralph and Polly Johnson. Paddy spent her early youth in Naples, Idaho until the family settled on Brownes Mountain in Spokane where her father farmed the land. She enjoyed a very happy childhood, being with her dear sister Gloria, skiing up and down the mountain on what are now an archaic set of skis with a single leather strap to hold her boot in and above all just being a girl living in a very, very special place. She graduated from Lindbergh High School in Valleyford, Washington in 1945.
She began work at Spokane Paper and Stationary where she met the love of her life George Young, they had five children.Together, they had many great adventures living in Missoula Montana, Brownes Mountain and finally settling in Four Lakes Washington where Paddy was the Postmaster and George operated an adjoining grocery store. George passed away unexpectedly in 1961. In 1964 Paddy purchased a wheat farm where she worked hard to keep it productive eventually passing it to her son. She retired from the USPS in 1985 and enjoyed a long blissful retirement. In 2001 she married Rudy Brandvold. They enjoyed their years together dancing and playing pinochle until Rudy's passing in 2007. After Rudy's death she began her fascination with Wii Bowling, she became very good and was the 2nd place All City winner of the Senior Wii Bowling Tournament of which she was very proud and continued to enjoy her sport for many years. She also enjoyed playing billiards and was quite good at it. She lived at Evergreen Fountains and Park Place and loved all her friends and neighbors in these vibrant senior communities, living independent to the end! We will miss her holistic approach to health, homemade sweaters and her knitting genius!
She is preceded in death by her brother Glenn (inf), a son (inf), husbands George and Rudy, her father and mother, sister Gloria, and grandson Michael Fowler. Survivors include Georgette (Larry) Wendt, Jody (Kena) Young, Laurel (Mark) Woodworth, Valerie (Dan) Dorshorst. Grandchildren Ray (Carla) Schultz, Wendy (Scott) Duncan, Jeff Wendt, Cameron Young, Kyle Young, Harland Young, Farren (Nathan) Reinbold, Heather (Eric) Timmering, Annie (Steve) Tague, Carly (Jim) Russell and 14 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Hospice of Spokane in Paddy's name. Special thanks to her caregivers Dr. Carijean Queen, Nora Redfox and Ruthanne Fix from Hospice of Spokane, Dr. Jeremiah Clinton, Dr. Mark Johnson, Dr. Don Thornton and the nursing staff on 4th floor south at SHMC, the care you provided to our Mom was the greatest, so sensitive, so caring you truly live your mission statement, thank you all!
