A Memorial Service Celebration of Life for Oren C. Peterson will be held at 3:00 PM September 11, 2021, at Saint Luke Lutheran Church, 9704 North Division, Spokane, WA. Following the service, attendees are invited to gather in the Fellowship Hall of the Church. Oren passed away of natural causes surrounded by loved ones at his home in Mead on April 24, 2021. He was born February 25, 1929, the fifth son of Inga and Albert Peterson in Black River Falls, Wisconsin. He was a generous loving member of the community who with his wife Margaret was a founding member of Saint Luke Lutheran Church in the early 1950s. Saint Luke’s has thrived and grown to a dynamic congregation of more than 1,000 on North Division. Oren was especially proud of his service at Spokane Fire District 9 that began as a volunteer fireman in the 1950s. He then served as Commissioner of Fire District 9 for 32 years overseeing dramatic growth, expansion, and development of a professional organization of firefighters, emergency medical technicians, and administrative staff of more than 170 career and volunteer personnel. Oren is survived by his wife of 71 years Margaret (Nelson). They met when she was in 5th grade at the one-room Shady Glen schoolhouse near Hixton, Wisconsin. He is also survived by his four children – Allen, Lorraine, Sharon, and Gene, along with nine grandchildren and a loving family of nephews, nieces, and multiple generations of progeny. Oren is interned at Riverside Memorial Park.
