Norma achieved so much in her time here. While raising their family, she established the first Microbiology Laboratory at Rockwood Clinic, where she was employed for 13 years. With numerous other professional endeavors, Norma retirement in 1996 from Drs. Berndt and Gaddy Family Practice.
Following her retirement, she worked tirelessly on the things that she loved. In 2015, Norma received the City of Spokane’s Spirit Award for her help in growing and expanding various social and humanitarian causes, including establishing the Filipino-American Association of the Inland Northwest and her service with the Associated Garden Club of Spokane and Friends of Manito. When she wasn’t volunteering, she thoroughly enjoyed working in her amazing and picturesque yard, as well as being an ever-present grandmother to her two grandsons. All of these things gave her immense joy and satisfaction, up until two months before her passing.
She loved to travel and had numerous adventures with her husband and family. Her strength, positive attitude and enthusiasm for life influenced everyone around her. She was beautiful and inspiring, up until her last moments in this life. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She lives on in those who loved her. Norma is survived by her husband, Michael J. Gavin, daughters Teresa Gavin and Naomi Gavin and grandsons Gavin L. Wingate and Jackson Meyer.
