Melvin Tveden

April 15, 1934 - February 29, 2016

Mel passed away February 29th, 2016 in Spokane Valley. He was born on April 15th, 1934 in Sidney, MT to Eli and Violia Tveden. Mel served in the United States Marine Corps. From 1950-1954. He then worked as a meat packer at S&P Meats with his brothers before joining the Spokane Fire Dept. in 1962. He made Captain in 1975 and ended up settling down at Station 15 where he worked until he retired as Captain in 1987. Mel enjoyed square dancing, handicapping horses at Playfair Race Course, going to the casino, crossword puzzles, traveling with Millie to Reno and taking Alaskan cruises. Mel is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Millie Tveden. He is survived by: his daughter, Jan (Mike) Odom of Spokane; three grandchildren, Melanie (Tim) Parratt, Michelle (Anthony) Ortez, Conrad (Lois) Odom all of Spokane; four great grandchildren, Cody, Anthony, Lucas and Levi; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. There will be no services per his request. We ask that you donate in his name to the Spokane Firefighters Benevolent Fund. Donations are accepted at the Spokane Firefighters Credit Union.
