Lyle Fairhurst

June 11, 1924 - February 13, 2017

Lyle Henry Fairhurst Sonny It is with sadness that we convey the passing of Lyle Henry Fairhurst, age 92, in his sleep, in his home on February 13th. Our beloved husband, father, brother and uncle was the second of five siblings born to Lyle and Flo Fairhurst in Lethbridge, Alberta in 1924 and there after being raised in the small community of Coaldale, Alberta. While living in Coaldale he met the love of his life Grace (Baldry) resulting in a marriage that lasted 66 years during which they raised two sons, Craig and Kevin (Linda). In his youth he was an enthusiastic athlete particularly in hockey and baseball and he coached both hockey and baseball as well. He was a sports fan all his life enjoying watching hockey, baseball, football and basketball. - While living in Coaldale, Lyle was on the Town Council and a Volunteer on the Coaldale Fire Department. Professionally he owned an insurance, accounting, and real estate business in Coaldale before he moved his family to Spokane in 1957. In Spokane he worked in accounting for Morry Cooper and Roger Fruci & Associates in the fifties and sixties. He then worked first as a real estate agent then a broker for Hege and then Howser companies before he opened his own real estate office Fairhurst & Associates. - In retirement he and Grace went on many cruises to the Caribbean, Hawaii, Alaska, St Lawrence River, Europe and the Mediterranean. He was a former member of the El Katif Shrine and was a past captain in the Arab Patrol. He was also a car enthusiast his whole life and in the last twenty years he enjoyed driving one of his son Craigs restored cars to local car shows. He enjoyed what he called his job taking care of his son Kevins dogs at noon while Kevin and Linda were at work. He also had a passion for gardening. Lyle was outgoing and could carry on a conversation with anyone, including complete strangers. Lyle could also be stubborn, cranky, and ornery (clerks at local grocery stores used to love saying hello ornery when they saw him), but he was a man who was fiercely loyal to his family and believed in honor and honesty and had no time for anyone who lied, cheated or was dishonest. - Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother in law Thelma and Jack Elliott, brother in law Earl J. Foxall, brother in law Murray Edwards, niece Shannon Edwards, and nephew Doug Foxall (Widow Judy). Lyle is survived by his wife Grace, sons Craig, Kevin and daughter in law Linda Fairhurst, sister Faye Foxall Oshiro, brothers Russell and Doug Fairhurst, sister in law Roberta Edwards, nieces Barb Herfst, Faye (Don) Hamilton, Wayne (Gayle) Foxall, Don (Cindy) Foxall, David Elliott, Bill (Claire) Edwards, Bob (Jeanette) Edwards, plus second and third generation nieces and nephews. - There will be a grave side service when Lyles remains are interned in a family plot in Lethbridge this summer.
