Obituary for Loyd Theron Jacob
Jacob, Loyd Theron
Loyd, loving and caring husband, father and grandfather passed away February 11, 2022 at the age of 93. He was born October 25, 1928 in Anaconda, Montana and moved to Spokane as a child. He graduated from North Central High school in 1946 then spent two years in the Army where he trained dogs in the canine corps. He went on to college to earn his Chiropractic and Naturopathy degrees and was a lifelong advocate for exercise and healthy living. While attending Gonzaga around 1950 he ran with the boxing team. He was way ahead of his time since nobody ran back then unless they were training for something. Loyd was an avid runner and ran in over 30 consecutive Bloomsdays, always finishing in the standings for his age group. He ran it in 52 minutes when he was 52 and despite “slow starts” and “too many runners” he ran it in 80 something minutes into his 80’s.
A car accident and a couple falls slowed him down in his late 80’s and his running and string of consecutive Bloomsdays ended.
After graduating from college, he and a friend drove to Mexico where he met and fell in love with Maria De’lourdes Revuelta Llorente “Lulu”. Their young love was real but after several months he reluctantly traveled back home without her. She was not 18 and her father would not allow it. They stayed in contact for a few years but eventually moved on.
Later he met and married Donna Dimmitt. They were married for 56 years and had five sons. He enjoyed playing with his boys and grandchildren on the “vacant lot” and watching their little league games and track and cross country meets.
After the sudden departure of his first wife when he was 88 his loneliness was turned into a fairy tale ending of happiness and love when we found his first love Lulu in Mexico 63 years since he had last seen her. She still had pictures, cards and hand written letters over 60 years old. She was ecstatic to hear from him. After a few months of correspondence (thanks to the night manager at Denny’s who would spend his break on Sunday evenings interpreting phone conversations) she traveled to Spokane to see him. Their love was rekindled and they got married in a beautiful ceremony in Mexico. Loyd was spoiled by Lulu his last three years. She was an angel sent from heaven!
He was preceded in death by his parents Freda and Loyd Jacob Sr., and his sisters Anamerle Ferguson and Hazel Pace. He is survived by his sister Bette Neff, his loving wife Lulu, his five sons: Mark, Dane, Paul, Scott, Craig, and step daughter Citlalitl Revuelta.
A celebration of Loyd’s life will be held Saturday March 12, 2022 at 1:00 pm at the Sunset Chapel at Fairmont Memorial Park, 5200 W. Wellesley.
