Obituary for Lois Eileen Abbott

ABBOTT, Lois Eileen (Dahl)

Lois Eileen Abbott was a loving wife, mother and matriarch and leaves behind a long list of people who will always remember her. She passed away March 3, 2023 at the age of 96.

Lois was born on November 8, 1926, in Hope, North Dakota to Clarence (Duffy) and Gladys (Baldwin) Dahl. She was the middle child out of seven sisters and brothers. The family moved to the Spokane Valley when Lois was 3.

She graduated from Central Valley High School in 1945, then Sacred Heart School of Nursing through the World War II Nurse Cadet Corps. She met the love of her life during that time walking down the street in Colfax, Washington, and was married to William Harold (Bill) Abbott on April 19,1947, just 10 days after they met. They had been married for 58 years in 2005, when Bill passed away.

Lois worked nights as an Emergency Room charge nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital while she and Bill raised their five children: Bruce, Richard, Sandra, Robert and Marilyn.

She was known for her prolific counted cross-stitch creations, winning several ribbons at the Spokane County Fair and gracing the walls of her relatives far and wide. In 2011 a selection of her 100+ cross-stitches were displayed at a local framing and art shop. Her beautiful handmade clothes and dresses are legendary and have been appreciated by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lois was also an avid walker, which she always said contributed to her longevity. She and her beloved walking group finished over 200 5k and 10k run/walks and also spent time traveling, yard-saling, golfing and much more.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, grandson Travis Yeoman, and siblings Robert Dahl, Claire Derning, Willard Dahl, Bruce Dahl, Carl Dahl and Patsy Strohmaier. Family who are left to remember her include children Bruce and Cathie Abbott, Richard Abbott, Sandra and Peter Deehr, Robert and Sue Abbott, Marilyn Abbott, sister-in-law Margie Dahl and brother-in-law Al Strohmaier, numerous nieces and nephews, nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held March 31 at 12 p.m. at the Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park (5200 W. Wellesley Ave, Spokane WA 99205).
