Obituary for Lloyd Willoughby
Born on December 26, 1933 to Ray and Pearl Willoughby, Lloyd lived in Hayford, Washington and attended a one room school house. While attending Cheney High School, he met his life long love, Freda Gray. Freda and Lloyd were married June 22, 1953. Following graduation, he attended Eastern Washington College and then Kinmen Business University to study accounting. Lloyd then enlisted in the Coast Guard where he earned Sharp Shooter status and a medal to match. After identifying as a conscientious objector, Lloyd was court marshaled and made to stay on the ship while representatives from Washington DC came to support his case. He was then honorably discharged and asked politely to not reenlist due to the Coast Guard's reluctance to accept Lloyd's religious beliefs.
Upon discharge, Lloyd worked as a construction worker on military housing at Garden Springs and sold insurance. He finally said he needed to stop because, “ I couldn't sell anybody anything even if they wanted it!” Lloyd then became a bookkeeper for JE Hall Logging for quite some time and later, worked at First National Bank as a building engineer before he was transferred to Old National Bank. During his time at Old National Bank, Lloyd was responsible for the heating and air conditioning in many of the branches in the North West. When Lloyd retired, he decided to work for Riverpark Square in their heating and air conditioning for 5 more years.
Lloyd loved his wife, God, and his family that consisted of 3 children Patricia, Mary, Terry and their respective spouses John, Cliff, and Patty. Lloyd was always proud and unabashedly willing to express his pride for his 8 grandchildren; Sean, Ryan, Cassondra, Cindy, Christie, Shondra, Stacy, Mark and their spouses as well as 11 great grand children.
Sadly, Lloyd R. Willoughby passed away on Friday, January, 25, 2019. He is survived by his loving wife, children, grand children and great grandchildren. He will be missed by many including friends, family, family of the church, Pastor Teddy Shupe and assistant Pastor Michael Smith.
