Lionel Richard Lockert

May 29, 1921 - April 14, 2015

LOCKERT, Lionel R. "Dick" (Age 93) Dick, quietly passed from this earth on April 14th in Spokane at Riverview Care Center. He was born at home to his parents Hans and Marie Pedersen in Spokane on May 29, 1921. The family officially changed their surname to Lockert in 1930. Dad was always proud of being Norwegian and would occasionally insert phrases of his heritage in conversations. Dick attended McKinley Grade School, Libby Jr. High and Lewis and Clark High School. After graduating in 1939 he worked for White Pine Sash Company before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served for three years as a Gunner's Mate First Class on the USS Black Hawk during WWII. While at a USO club he met the love of his life Patricia Fisher (Navy 3rd Class Specialist Q). They were married on July 29th 1945 and were together for 68 years before her death in 2014. After leaving the Navy, he returned to work at White Pine Sash Company until its closure. He then became employed by Western Pine and later at Exchange Lumber Company until his retirement in 1983. Dad was always an inventor and would amaze us with his ideas. He enjoyed making model airplanes, gardening and remodeling his home as well as helping his family with their projects. He loved spending time and spoiling his granddaughter Shannon. He especially loved all the memories that were created on several Oregon Coast vacations where they would investigate all of the sea creatures and caves they could find. Dick leaves behind his son Rick Lockert (Darlene), granddaughter Shannon Hendrickson (Scott), great-grandchildren Jade and Preston, one sister Lila Larson, one brother-in-law Edward Fisher and numerous nieces and nephews. At his request no services will be held. Memorials may be made in his name to: Meals on Wheels,1222 W. 2nd Ave., Spokane WA 99201 or the charity of your choice To plant a tree in memory of Lionel Richard Lockert, visit the Tribute Store.
