June 27, 1923 - February 12, 2016
Lilias Scott Keel died on February 12, 2016 in Spokane, WA at the age of 92. A native of Fredericksburg, VA, she was born to Margaret Amsden Scott and John Berry Scott on June 27, 1923. As a child, she loved and pursued ballet dancing and continued to perform while at Mary Washington College. After graduating, she married James Franklin Keel Jr., also of Fredericksburg. Together they began their family in Roanoke, VA, bearing their two children, James Franklin Keel III of Knoxville, TN and Ritchie Keel Whipple of Spokane, WA. Grounded in a deep personal faith throughout her life, Lilias devoted much time and energy in service to the Episcopal Church. Although her life is difficult to sum up in a few sentences, Lilias could be described as a delightful, kind, and generous lady who was also an attentive and caring wife and mother; one who was well-liked by all who knew her well. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995 at age 73, and by her brother, John Francis Scott. She is survived by her two children, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and her brother, George Hamilton Scott. A graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Fredericksburg, VA at a later date. The family request that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Boys’ Home, 306 Boys’ Home Road, Covington, VA 24426, or Jackson Feild Homes, 2800 Patterson Ave., Suite 302, Richmond, VA 23221.
