Leland Isaac Burgess

July 25, 1946 - May 07, 2016

BURGESS, Leland Isaac (Age 69) Leland passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on May 7, 2016. He was born to Isaac (Ike) and Ruby Burgess on July 25, 1946 in Devils Lake, North Dakota, completing the family including his siblings; Keith, Janice, Leroy and Sharon. Leland grew up in rural North Dakota and graduated from Benson County Agricultural & Training School in 1966. Upon graduation, Leland entered the Army and served active duty in Vietnam, followed by two years in the Ready Reserve. After leaving the Army he followed his brother Keith to Eureka, Montana and went to work at Plum Creek Lumber Mill; Leland retired in 2008 after 40 years of service. In 1969 he met a tall beauty, Peggy Hudson and they were married on July 3, 1966. The couple made their home in Eureka. To this union three children were born; Nicolle, Jeanine and Bradley. Peggy and Leland later divorced; however, he remained a beloved part of the Hudson family for the rest of his life. Leland provided for his children until they were grown and continued to help them when they needed assistance. He would often be found providing handyman service for his mother-in-law, Joyce Hudson. In 1999 Leland purchased a beautiful home in Deer Park, WA with his daughter Nicolle. After he retired, Leland moved to Deer Park. He spent many hours improving the property, building fences, and having the property logged. He also loved to tinker with his tractor and watching the hummingbirds that would frequent the feeders around the home. Leland enjoyed a good bargain and would bring home equipment that didn’t run quite right, and it would be purring along in no time. Leland made frequent trips to Eureka to visit family and friends, and was welcomed with open arms. As his health began to fail the trips became less frequent but he was determined to spend time with his family. He was always on the phone, receiving many phone calls from friends and family on a daily basis. Leland was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Keith and Leroy Burgess, sister Janice Olson and brother-in-law Vern Alan Hudson. He is survived by his children; Nicolle (Russ) Hansen, Rathdrum ID, Jeanine (Kirk) Worthington, Kingston, WA and Bradley Burgess, Spokane. Grandsons; Anthony (Hannah) Worthington, Justin (Amanda) Worthington, Josh Worthington, and Josiah Worthington. Also surviving are; his uncle Lloyd Burgess, his sister Sharon Grossman, four sisters-in-law Lenore Burgess, Violet Burgess, Patty (Tom) Turk, Lynn Hudson; former wife and care giver Peggy Burgess and his mother-in-law Joyce Hudson. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends. Leland was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints at Eureka, MT where a memorial service will be held at a later date.
