Obituary for Leland Cecil Woodard

Leland (Lee) C. Woodard was a father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He left this world suddenly on February 21, 2022, at age 81. He was the son of Mike and Edna Austin, born on April 25, 1940. He married and had six children, Leland Marlow, Cheryl, Paul, Wendy, Dana, and Christopher. He’s preceded in death by his oldest son, Leland, and youngest son, Christopher.

Lee loved spending time at his stable with his horses and passing on that love to his children and grandchildren. They’d gather around the stalls and watch his assertive pose to glean from his experience. He’d sneak in a little humor from time to time. His grandson’s favorite memory was when he put his hat on sideways and tried to ride an elliptical acting like he had a few skews loose. Most weekends you could find him either walking the acreage, playing in the mud on his tractor, or working on his truck in the shop. Perhaps his greatest undertaking was living in the shop with a family of eight, while building a home to fit six children on a 160-acre farm on Mt. Spokane.

Let’s not forget his day job, and feeding the pigs, milking the cows, butchering the steer, and plucking the feathers from chickens to put dinner on the table. He won many wars with the deep winter snows on his 45-minute commute up the dirt mountain roads after a long day's work to put food on the table. He later moved to Snohomish, WA. There he was a builder and taught his two sons his trade. Most remember him for his role running a crew at Sellen Construction, building skyscrapers in downtown Seattle. He will be remembered by family, as they watch his middle son, Paul, carry on in his father's trade as a home builder.
