December 14, 1936 - November 21, 2016
Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend was born to Oscar and Eva Bowlin, December 14, 1936 in Manes, MO. Kitty passed away on November 21, 2016 at her home surrounded by many loved ones. Kitty was the seventh of thirteen children. She is survived by her daughters Annita Lynn Reilly, Melessa Rogers, Laura Cook, Tia Tauscher and Lola Rogers, along with many sons-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kitty is preceded in death by her daughter Mara Gail Rogers, her parents, her brothers Bob, Billy, Dewayne and Don Bowlin, and her sisters Mildred Geraldine Robinett, Dixie Call, and Carol Sue and Donna Fay Bowlin. Kitty was a gifted gardener, artist, cook, and singer. She was happiest out digging in the dirt or putting brush to canvas, creating wonderful paintings treasured by her family and friends. Throughout her life Kitty believed in fairness, justice, and generosity. She was a staunch supporter of workers' rights and the need for effective unions to protect those rights. Her unwavering opposition to prejudice and her willingness to speak her mind and even risk arrest standing up for the underdog were an inspiration. Kitty raised her six daughters with determination and unbounded nurturing. Her home was open to anyone in need and there was always room for one more at the dinner table. Her house was full of music and her pantry was full of delicious homegrown food that she handed out by the armful. Each fall Kitty got immense joy hosting her annual Harvest Feast for neighbors and friends, with scores of guests in the backyard eating, talking, and singing. She will be deeply missed. A memorial service honoring Kittys life will be held January 28, 2017 at Chester Community Church in the Spokane Valley. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Second Harvest, 1234 E. Front Ave., Spokane, WA 99202, (509) 534-6678 [www.2-harvest.org]. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me. Matthew 25:35
